California- Napa Valley and San Fran

Monday, August 5, 2013

We have to admit by the end of our crammed weekend of national parks, we were definitely national parked out! A trip to Napa Valley and outside of San Francisco to visit some old friends was just what we needed. They both offered their places as our home for a few nights and we accepted excitedly. Starting in Napa, it was great to catch up, go out to dinner at an iron chef sushi restaurant, ride a horse for the first time in over a year, and do a little wine tasting.

On a day that our Napa friends were working, we took a day trip to Woodland, CA and toured the birthplace of our Four Wheel Camper. We also got a second fantastic fan installed above our kitchen area.

After our dinner out that night, we got a bit goofy.

Riding at the farm where Laura trains.

Wine tasting at Domaine Carneros.

We ended our visit with our Napa friends mid week and drove into the "city" ,as Californians call San Francisco, to visit our other friends.

We stayed across the bay in a small subdivision and took a ferry into San Francisco.

Fisherman on the pier.

The America Cup Race was taking place.

Leaving the city, we had some entertainment on the 5:40 friday ferry.

Saturday we stuck around in Alameda and went to the wine and arts festival. There were some great vendors and all of us (including the dogs) had a great time walking the town.

That night we luckily accompanied our friends to a farm to table dinner in Petaluma, CA. The place was awesome and food delicious.

We went back into the city and visited a very hippie area on Sunday.

Ate at a very good Puerto Rican place on Haight St.

Happy to be in traffic.

Amazing cannollis made here!

Took Monday to do laundry, grocery shop, regroup, and spend some down time with our friends at their home.

Tuesday, Jeff took us back into the city once more to do the ultimate San Francisco tourist trip.....ride a cable car!

On the ferry ride over, it looked overcast over the city, but turned out to be an awesome day.

Small produce sale outside the ferry building.

Stopped to have some real good burgers and beer.

Here we go!

Had to do it....no, not touch (get your minds out of the gutter!) just photograph this sign.

Lombard Street.

Ahoy up there!

The Rock- Alactrez

Stopped in Fisherman's Warf to have another beer.

Last ferry ride from San Fran.

We left mid day Wednesday. I have to admit, I didn't want to leave that super comfortable bed I'd been sleeping in the past 6 nights, the company of good friends, and cool city places. I got my mind excitedly set on camping again, and after catching a quick lunch at a good Cuban place in Alameda, we took off north across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Pete insisted the "Forby" (Ford crossed with Grandby- the name of our camper) get photographed in front of the Golden Gate as well.

That is our amazing time in Napa and San Francisco! Hope you guys enjoyed!
